Background

Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel was established in 1922 by the Sisters of the Divine Compassion. A strong academic program taught in a caring atmosphere is the hallmark of a Good Counsel education. For over a century, the Sisters of the Divine Compassion have equipped generations with a love of learning and with decision making skills based on Christian values. To date, countless young people have benefitted from a GCA experience.

The Girls of diverse religions and cultures are accepted on an equal basis. Religious studies as well as a strong Christian way of life provides the background for the overall atmosphere of peace and compassion. Smaller class size allows for individual attention and a child centered program. Special subjects such as Music, Art, Foreign Language, Physical Education and Information Technology provide enrichment. Structure, routine, dress code and mutual respect among all individuals facilitate the educational process and foster appreciation of the variety of personalities and cultures represented in the student body.

Within this atmosphere of peace, students are guided toward the development of their whole person so that ultimately they become aware that they have within themselves the resources to create a better world. Success and self confidence are the outcome.[3]

The school is housed in the Good Counsel Complex, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.[4]
